Jazz band: duo or trio playing wonderful lounge music

A good jazz band is a timeless choice when looking for a band that will treat your guests to subtle yet premium live music whilst providing them with a great, communicative ambience. Our jazz duo JAZZ 2 has successfully been playing events for many years.  Recently they also started performing as a jazz trio: with contrabass! When speaking to saxophonist Matthias Wittwer, he told us all about their newest addition:

Matthias Wittwer (sax), Andreas Gerbig (guitar)

Hello Matthias: How long have you been part of the project JAZZ 2?:
We’ve been playing together since 2003, but when we met for the first time, it definitely felt like we had been playing together all our lives.

Can you describe the typical event you are usually booked for with JAZZ 2?

We are usually employed when the client wishes for a noble ambience. That can either be a gala dinner, a champagne reception or even a ‘gift’ to the employees at a corporate event. A lot of times we’re asked to play when there is no space for a huge stage or big equipment.

What do your clients value about JAZZ 2?

Spontaneity and authenticity. We play by heart for hours on end, just as it should be in jazz music. Improvisation is a huge part of our concerts. And we’re always playing close attention to the audience as well. It’s not uncommon that a client says: “The ambience was exactly how I imagined it to be – how did you do that?”

Why did you decide to add a contrabass to your performance?

In a way, the contrabass carries musically what saxophone and guitar are playing. The lower frequencies are omnipresent in the whole room but they are never loud. It’s almost like a big hug with the audience.

Can you summarize your career in music in two, three sentences?

I studied jazz saxophone in the Netherlands and have been working eversince as saxophonist, composer and producer. My job is to make people happy – and that works pretty well with music.

Thank you!
